Once again, an early morning call was required for our sleeping beauties this morning but once awake, it was all hands on deck – a relevant phrase in an old naval college – to ensure that bags were packed, beds were stripped, toothbrushes were remembered and we were ready to face our final day’s activities. As they have with all of our challenges this week, once again the students rose to the occasion and left our accommodation pretty much as we found it. Admittedly Mr. Suter now has a huge black bin bag full of lost property, but we’ll be grateful for small mercies and the fact that we got to breakfast on time.
Where we faced our second challenge of the day: facing up to the mountain of food provided for breakfast! Our catering staff has been christened the ‘food pushers’ – in a good way of course. We have eaten extremely well this week. Highlight? Possibly Findlay’s baked bean sandwich for lunch yesterday!
And so to our activities, and of all the things that have been done this week, this was possibly the once that caused the children to face up to their fears the most. Climbing up a cliff face is not everyone’s cup of tea, and we all have different strengths and fears, but even those whose darkest fears rose to the surface managed to make their way along the Via Ferrata course. Some will tell you they hated it, but they should all tell you how proud they are of achieving it. Of equal note is how encouraging the children were of their peers – it was often that which helped the children rise to the occasion.
It was no less challenging for those that attempted the high ropes – again, team work was of the essence. Hopefully the photographs will give you an indication of how well the children did. Scaling ladders to balance beams up in the trees was not an easy task, relying especially on the team mates below to hold their safety ropes should they slip.
A final feed, bags loaded and as this is being typed we are winding our way through the north Wales countryside back to school. We were going to start a sweepstake to see who would be the first to fall asleep on the coach, but Miss McEvoy beat us to it and is gentle slumbering at the front of the bus. What a wonderful three days!

I had a great time at Conway with all my prep 6 friends. My favourite activity was Paddleboarding because I have never done Paddleboarding before. The food at Conway was brilliant.
