Prep V were transported back in time to the 1850s on their trip to Tatton Park this week. They spent a day working in the Mansion House under the watch of the housekeeper and her servants, on trial to see if they could be recruited to be the new servants for Lord and Lady Egerton.
The children learned all about life as a servant…..laying tables and fires, preparing afternoon tea and attending to the Lord and Lady’s needs, especially if they heard one of the bells ringing to summon them to do a job.
After lunch, it was straight back to work….doing a stock take in the cellar, polishing the silver and even sweeping and scrubbing the floors.
I am pleased to announce that all children worked so hard, they have been offered a job, starting next Monday at 5.30 am! I am sure they will sleep well tonight and maybe parents may find that any chores they are asked to do at home from now on, may seem a small task!
A great day for all the children, learning firsthand what it was like to live and work in a Victorian Mansion.
