Bridgewater Under 10 football team arrived at The Grange playing fields full of optimism and excitement. The warm up was keenly contested and the boys looked ready for their fist game vs. Cransley. Unfortunately the energy and volume of the warm up was not matched in the game and Cransley were on top in most areas of the pitch. Despite some heroic captaincy from Albie he could not overcome a team single-handedly so Bridgewater struggled to a nil-nil draw.
In the second game vs. Highfield Priory the team did show more grit and determination against impressive opposition. Theo’s distribution from goalkeeper improved the team’s passing and there was more zest from the team. Unfortunately Bridgewater could still not score and Highfield secured a 2-0 victory.
Bridgewater were now staring down the barrel with the highly impressive Rolls Royce of a team called Scarisbrick Hall who were next on the schedule. Mr. Rooney decided to change the team to a Christmas Tree formation and hoped it would bear gifts! The plan worked! Reign and Elia were sturdy in defence and Freddie was showing his power in the middle of the pitch. The opposition grew increasingly frustrated. Bridgewater developed their play impressively and nearly snatched the game at the end. Mr. Rooney and the team were delighted with the performance.
A local derby vs. Branwood was next. The opposition were keen to win and applied themselves in any way they could to be victorious. Bridgewater matched the opposition in every area and Zayne’s energy up front created two chances that were slammed into the opposition net. Irving was man of the match with his incisive tackling. Bragging rights had been achieved and the team were on a high ready for the quarter finals.
Our quarter final vs. Tower College was a strange game with Bridgewater having most of the ball and the chances but Tower had four shots and won 4-0! The Bridgewater team were bewildered but lots of lessons were learned ready for our next match soon.
Special mention for Roshan for his support on crutches. We need him back on the pitch!
