Reception Class have been hard at work taking part in this year’s Harvest Challenge, with the children completing jobs outside school to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. From gardening and car washing to recycling, cooking and cleaning, they certainly pulled out all the stops!
Once they had raised their money, the children explored the Salford Foodbank website to find out which items were most needed. Instant noodles and cereal were high on the list, so these were top of their shopping list!
With shopping bags at the ready, the children boarded the school minibus and headed off to Morrisons. Divided into two teams, everyone had the opportunity to take charge of the shopping trolley and carefully select items from their list. There was even time to investigate some figs and visit the fishmongers, linking back to things they had been learning about in class.
The children worked together brilliantly, helping to scan and pack the shopping before taking turns to feed money into the payment slots. Their excellent manners and thoughtful approach did not go unnoticed, with several members of staff and the public commenting on what lovely children they were. It was wonderful to see them thinking about others and understanding how their efforts could make a real difference to people in their local community.
Another amazing effort from Reception Class! Well done, everyone, for embracing the Harvest Challenge and showing such kindness and generosity.
