Prep V woke this morning frightening the rabbits which were bouncing around on the grass outside. After a chaotic hour of bed stripping, bag packing and organising a dry outfit for later on, we felt we had earned our cooked breakfast. A choice of bacon, beans, scrambled eggs, toast and croissant set us up for a busy morning of raft building.
‘Have you packed your shoes, towel and underwear?’ came the cry from the teachers (Not all of them had!) We put on our waterproof clothing and headed to the Menai Straits. “Look at that beautiful view,” exclaimed the birthday boy Harrison as we rounded the corner and saw the sun shining on the sparkling sea.
Our challenge was to build a sea worthy raft using barrels, wooden poles and rope just like the Navy Cadets would’ve done back in the day when the Conway Centre was a Navy training facility. We cooperated in our groups and manged to get build and launch two successful rafts – all the knots held using our forest school skills, thank you Mr Connelly, you would have been proud of us!
We practised rowing backwards and forwards, some of us were excellent at going around in circles! Luckily none of the Jellyfish, Sharks or Octopuses that were feared were out playing today- phew! Finally the more intrepid among us decided to take a leap into the sea. Freezing, salty and terribly bracing. From Miss Gregory the highlight of the morning was hosing the children down as they emerged from the water.
After a quick shower the children put on their clean dry and warm clothes ready for some lunch. We enjoyed pasta and baked potatoes followed by cookies and fruit with a piece of birthday cake. Sadly it was then time to board the coach back to school.
Prep V has thoroughly enjoyed their night away and successfully met the challenges that came their way, strengthened friendships and made us proud. Thank you to all the staff at the centre for their excellent guidance and to parents for their continued support.

I absolutely loved the trip thank you for taking me on it! And thank you for the cake Harrison!:)
