The children in Prep II have had a remarkable start to the academic year, embracing new challenges with resilience, determination, and enthusiasm. It has been a joy to witness their growth in confidence and independence, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements so far.
The term began with the privilege of being among the first to explore the newly established Forest School area with Mr. Connolly. This wonderful outdoor space has offered the children invaluable opportunities to connect with nature, develop practical skills, and work together as a team.
In the classroom, the children have engaged in dynamic and interactive learning experiences across all subjects. In Mathematics, we have successfully tackled Place Value and Addition and Subtraction, building strong foundational skills. We are currently exploring our third topic, Shape, where the children have been investigating 2-D and 3-D shapes, identifying vertices, and honing their drawing skills. A highlight was using lollipop sticks to construct shapes – a fun and hands-on way to solidify their understanding.
Our primary topic this term has been Famous Women Throughout History, which has inspired curiosity and admiration. We began by learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, exploring their extraordinary contributions to healthcare and identifying both similarities and differences in their lives. Later, we examined the inspiring story of Rosa Parks, discussing her courageous stand against injustice and the legacy she left behind. More recently, our focus has shifted to the United Kingdom, where the children have enjoyed learning about the four nations, their capital cities, and their flags.
In Science with Mr. Grant, the children have been investigating materials and their properties. They have explored examples of materials within our school environment and conducted hands-on experiments to determine the best material for making a parachute – a practical and exciting way to bring their learning to life. Though skydiving may still be a little way off, their enthusiasm for discovery has been unmistakable.
The children celebrated the end of the Autumn Term with our Christmas production of The Angel Express. All pupils shone brightly on stage and their hard work and enthusiasm created a magical experience that captured the festive spirit and truly set the tone for the season.
