Our Under 8 team arrived at Manchester University excited about their packed lunch and of course the rugby tournament ahead! The weather was beautiful and the 3G pitch was in fine form for some flowing rugby. Bridgewater had ten games scheduled so rotation and hydration were very necessary on a warm afternoon.

Our first two games were against Cheadle and Manchester Grammar. Albie, Theo, Freddie and Jett’s  previous experience of playing rugby certainly helped the team settle in to a rhythm quickly with all the boys scoring in our first two games which we won with some excellent tries.

A rematch against MGS and a tricky game against Merchant Taylor’s also resulted in victories but the highlight was the tagging of Nahla and Ayesha who were outstanding against famous rugby schools.

Our game against Cheadle was a reality check with some excellent players testing Bridgewater’s tagging prowess to the limit. An honourable draw was achieved with Roshan doing some excellent tagging and showing high motivation for the game.

Our game against Kirkham was equally as intense and yet again one of our rookies came to the fore with Ethan running about the field tagging like a machine! It was a joy to see with yet another draw achieved against an excellent side.

The crunch derby match against Bolton motivated the Bridgewater team massively. Freddie and Albie were determined to control the middle of the field with some surging runs and Theo made some outstanding supportive runs scoring some crucial tries. The victory belong to the Bridgewater team with Albie scoring the pick of the tries.

Our final game against St Mary’s was blessed with a beautiful rainbow over our pitch with the crock of gold belonging to the inimitable Irving who mastered the concept of playing on his team’s side of the pitch and making some excellent tags helping us to another win.

An unbeaten afternoon, some wonderful rugby played and excellent support from our parents. Well played the victorious Bridgewater side!
