In Kindergarten, children developed their fine motor skills by threading cereal hoops to create hanging bird feeders. Reception children used scoops to carefully fill a variety of bird feeders with bird food. The feeders were then hung outside the classrooms, giving the children the opportunity to observe visiting birds throughout the day.

The children used books and bird identification cards to help them recognise different species and recorded their observations using ten frames. We were delighted to spot robins and blue tits visiting our feeders.

Reception also learned a rhyme about magpies and enjoyed sharing any bird sightings with their classmates. Some children even continued the challenge at home over the weekend, extending their learning beyond the classroom.

All of our observations will be shared with the RSPB, helping to contribute to this important nationwide survey.
