Did you know that there are thousands of different Greek dances, which come from all the different regions of Greece? Each dance has its own music and mood, and they are performed at festivals and celebrations such as weddings and parties. In Greek schools, all children learn to perform these dances from the age of five.

Prep Five were lucky enough to have an expert tutor when one of our parents, Mrs Sotiriou, very kindly came into school to teach us two Greek dances. We started slowly and gradually increased our pace in time to the rapidly accelerating music. There was some tricky footwork (some of us wondering which was our right foot!) and a lot of laughter, excitement and handkerchief waving, but by the end of the session we were beginning to get to grips with the energetic routines. A little more practice may be required but a good time was had by all, and we were very grateful to Mrs Sotiriou and Miss Sherlock Platt who kept the dancing circle turning!
