Our Prep children had an exciting visit from the team at Eccles Fire Service, bringing our PSHE learning about careers and people who help us vividly to life. The visit gave the children a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand what it takes to be a firefighter and to learn about the vital role firefighters play in keeping our communities safe.
The firefighters spoke about their day-to-day responsibilities, from responding to emergencies to helping people stay safe through prevention and education. The children were full of curiosity, and the crew were more than happy to answer their burning questions!
There were plenty of highlights throughout the visit. The children were thrilled to climb inside the fire engine and explore all the different compartments packed with specialist equipment. They also had the chance to try on real firefighter helmets—which turned out to be much heavier than they expected! It certainly gave them a new appreciation for the gear firefighters wear while tackling fires and other emergencies.
One of the most exciting moments was using the fire hose. With a little help from the firefighters, the children had a go at directing the powerful stream of water, which sparked huge enthusiasm and lots of smiles. It was safe to say the experience really ignited their imaginations.
Inspired by the visit, several children are already fired up about the idea of becoming firefighters themselves one day. It was a fun, engaging, and memorable learning opportunity that truly lit a spark in our young learners.
