Prep V have been studying The Highwayman, the classic narrative poem by Alfred Noyes, and have used its vivid imagery and atmosphere as inspiration for their artwork.
“The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding –
Riding –riding –
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.“
Today, Hallie brought in her dressage outfit, noting its resemblance to the Highwayman’s dramatic attire—a fun and creative link to the poem. The class has produced some excellent artwork, reflecting their enthusiasm and thoughtful engagement with the text.

Thank you Mrs Sweeney for teaching me about the wonders and mysteries of the book!
I really enjoyed reading The Highway Man because it has some very interesting pieces of art that you can reinterpret and the ghost bit at the end was extremely spooky.

I loved reading the highwayman. I liked how it explained that love can last beyond life. A really, really good book. I also liked writing Tim’s diary because it was good to express Tim’s feelings to Bess.
