Kindergarten and Reception Class had a wonderful time on their trip to Cockfields Farm this week. The forecast was looking great and excitement was building as we boarded the coach. Traffic was kind to us and we arrived safely right on time. With our picnic lunches safely stored away in our lunch area, it was time for the first item on our itinerary: a tractor ride! We climbed onto the trailer while Farmer Keira took us on a little drive around the fields of the farm, taking in the sights of ducks, pigs and goats. We even spotted Rapunzel’s Tower (Hartshead Pike) in the distance!

After visiting the ducks and geese, it was time to meet some rabbits and guinea pigs. The children were very gentle whilst stroking them, so much so that one of our new big eared friends fell asleep! Next stop was to feed the sheep, goats and alpacas. The children enthusiastically collected handfuls of feed from the large bucket and fed the eager animals, making sure to keep their hands flat so no nibbles occurred. The animals were very grateful for our group of children and I’m sure their tummies were full by the time the bucket was empty.

There was just enough time to meet and stroke some chicks, who were only a few days, before it was time to head to the reptile house. In here we met rats, turtles, lizards, and a python. The rat was very friendly and the children enjoyed holding and stroking many of these exciting creatures.

After a busy morning, everyone had worked up an appetite. It was time to tuck into our delicious picnic lunch and to chat on our tables about the highlights of our trip so far. Refreshed and well fed, the afternoon was our own and we decided to head to an area of the farm that the children had been longing to visit since we had arrived… the park! We climbed, whizzed down slides, spun on roundabouts and almost touched the sky on the swings. As the other farm visitors began to leave, it was our turn on the Bouncing Pillow. With shoes discarded by the side, the children ran and crawled their way onto the huge pillow. They bounced, bounced, and bounced some more! The afternoon had flown by and it was soon time to head back to the farm entrance to get back onto our bus to return to school.

We couldn’t believe how lucky we had been with the weather; the sun had shone all day long. The children in both classes made all of their teachers very proud with their brilliant behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the trip.

What a fantastic trip, filled with fun and exciting experiences!
