Have you ever been on a scavenger hunt? Prep Five were challenged to work with a partner to find twelve different things in Worsley Woods on Monday afternoon during our Forest School session.

Among the objects we searched for were a compound leaf, (following on nicely from our work with compound shapes in Maths that morning!), something spiky, a feather, a berry and an acorn. We also had to find a stone that we found interesting and a leaf that resembled something else…Robyn’s leaf looked like a lizard and Philippa’s looked like a heart!

We enjoyed the freedom of being out in the sunshine, as well as the opportunity to chat, work as a team and show inclusivity by helping others and interacting with people with whom we do not usually work. Just when our bags were nearly full, a new challenge was issued: can you find something for each of your initials?

Sam O found a spider and an old Oasis bottle, Darcy S found a small plastic dragon and a stick, Isha J found an ivy leaf and some junk, Alice B found an arched shaped twig and some bark while Max M found moss… and more moss! We are nothing if not ingenious in Prep Five! Poor Zulfikar was struggling to find anything in the woods beginning with a “Z”; luckily Alice – in an incredible and imaginative moment of thinking outside the box –  observed that our woodland walk had been a zen experience, and he could put this in his bag metaphorically!

Back in the classroom we arranged our treasures on a large sheet of paper and labelled our finds. Mrs Booth kindly came into judge our scavenger results. Everyone had done brilliantly, but the winners were team Jovi, Leo and Claudia, who tied for first place with Philippa and Alice. A fantastic afternoon’s work, well done everyone, and thank you (as ever) to Miss Gregory for leading us so purposefully!

I really enjoyed it because we got to go out into the woods. I remember that at one point I found a stick that I put my bag on and I looked like one of the three little pigs when they were moving houses. Me and Lucy found a huge tree stump and started walking and running and dancing on it and it was really fun. But one of the harder things were when we had to find things in the woods that started with our first name and last name for example mine was E for Edie and R for Redfern it very hard.

I found the scavenger Hunt really interesting because people went past some things and me and Ted just kept spotting them. I would say the hardest things to find were the acorns and the flowers the easiest things to find were probably the leafs with insect bites and when we had to find something orange because we went past a bit on the path that was filled with lots of orange leaves. I liked the bonus round when we had to find are names I found ivy for Isha and junk for Joshi and Ted found twig for Ted and bark for Beale. We found all the things on the list but when we were doing the bonus round me Claudia and Jovi were struggling to find something for J but then I saw a bit of rubbish and thought of junk and then I was struggling for I but then Mrs. Sweeney gave me a great idea to do ivy and sky did Darcy. My favourite part was when we had to oraginise it at the end it was very tricky because some of the leaves were spikey and I couldn’t bare the pain so I had to ask Ted to do it. the end I didn’t win but I was happy for the people who did it wasn’t about the winning but I had lots of fun. I enjoyed this expirience and would like to do more in the future.

I really liked the walk and finding items and putting them in a bag.On the walk me Ted, Toban, and Leo went on top of a fallen down tree and before that me Ted and Zulfikar were mining the dirt off the tree stump(this was the tree me Ted, Toban and Leo were sat on), and Theo was just walking on the tree as the photo was taken. The tree that was sunken down into the ground has been there for years!!!(I think). In the bonus challenge I got an acorn for Austin and a rock for Royle which makes Austin Royle. In the last photo I was in I was just sitting there doing nothing and starin right into the camera.

I think was amazing because I really enjoyed go out into the woods and finding all the nature treasure. I found it very easy to find all of the things that were beginning with my initials RP. I found a rock and a pine cone.
Florence found it hard to find objects beginning with F and G. But we did it in the end.

This was so enjoyable but tricky. I did really love finding things but I have to admit I struggled quite a bit. I would to do this again. Doing this type of stuff you really have to concentrate. My favourite bit was probably finding plants, junk because even though it was hard we found something! It was so hard finding something for my initial but Im so glad I did find something. I also enjoyed the walk because it was nice to look at how beautiful nature really is. As of not many people realise how pretty it is. I had spotted a few birds to. From Jovi

It was really fun when we went in the woods to go on our scavenger hunt because we had to collect a big list of resources around Worsley woods. When i heard we had to collect things that started with our first letter of our name and surname I knew mine was going to be very difficult because I have a double barrel last name which gave me a disadvantage as everyone else has one surname. Zulfikar was wondering what he should do for Z and Alice came up with a zen experience which was a great idea. Overall i had a brilliant time.

I found the scavenger hunt really fun! I thought the hardest thing to find was going to be a flower (because it’s winter) but Toban found it for us pretty easily. It turned out that the hardest thing to find (that we didn’t end up finding) was an acorn. We found the top of an acorn but it didn’t count. Finding a feather was also really hard to find but Edie and Austin had an extra and gave it to us! I found it strange but really cool that there was money in a tree stump. Some of the coins were new and some were really old. Some of us tried to pull out a coin, but we couldn’t. We also had to try and find something in the forest that started with our initials. I found “litter” for the L in Lucy and I found a stick for the S in Smolar. Even though we didn’t win I still had a lot of fun and I found it was a really good forest school!

Let’s start I just thought that jt was going to be a normal forest school. But no… this was really fun and when you said that u picked partners out of the lolly sticks I thought I was gonna be with someone I dint know as much but no I was with someone that I know.!I was really happy about that ! Let’s move onto when we got into the forest .jovie found a a green leaf. Then I got a prickly leaf I got pricked but it was fine because we needed to get them all so then we found a shovel but to a got it before us . And lucky the weather was nice and I liked it when we got to explore in the trees bit because I found some flowers and that what we dint have .when you gave us the challenge that we have to get stuff for our names Leo was really easy because we got him a leaf but miss sweeney said it’s not allowed because we already have it so we got a log then for his last name we got moss .then for me and jovie we have the same because Jones and jovie then cannon and Claudia so we got two conncers and 2 junk ! Luckily Isha helped us with the j because we were stuck on the j .i was thinking on how it toaban and Zulfikar gonna do it . But I got everything and at the end we got sand paper .and I did all the work like writing it and setting them up then my group and Phil’s group won and we got 5 house points from miss booth . Thank you very much for the day out loved it so much from Claudia

I liked the afternoon because I enjoyed the scavenger hunt. I also thought it would be hard to find something from rubbish. Carlo squished the berry and that was are only berry( I got one but I dropped it ). I didn’t think it would be that hard to find and prickle leave. When we got further into the woods Carlo started to run of but I didn’t give up I kept going. Then Mrs Sweeney told us there is a bonus points for people who can find things that begin with there initials For D S I found and plastic dragon for D and for S I found a stick. We had a bit of trouble finding C K for Carlo we only found a conker and we didn’t find a K.

    I was muddy but happy.
