What a busy and exciting week it’s been in Reception!
We kicked things off on Tuesday with the launch of our Harvest Challenge, and the children are already buzzing with enthusiasm about it. More details have gone home, but it’s safe to say our little learners are ready to embrace the season of giving and growing.
In Phonics, the class tackled some new letters – g, o, c, k, and ck. They’ve been working hard on recognising sounds, learning actions, and practising their writing. We’ve also started looking at some tricky words – those words that don’t quite play by the phonics rules! If you’d like to sing along at home, you can find our favourite tricky word song here.
Over in Maths, the focus has been on patterns – spotty, stripy, checkered, and more! The children have been exploring AB and AAB repeating patterns and using their subitising skills (instantly recognising quantities without counting). There’s been lots of singing, counting, and giggling as they’ve even joined in with songs up to 100!
Earlier in the week, the children got creative with family pictures, using loose parts to represent everyone in their home before drawing lovely portraits of their family members. It’s been such a heartwarming activity, and they’ve loved sharing stories about the people who mean the most to them.
And finally, Forest School was a musical treat! Mr. Connolly introduced the class to a range of instruments — including a harmonica! The children had an amazing time making music, dancing, and exploring the sounds of nature all around them.
All in all, it’s been another wonderful week in Reception — full of learning, laughter, and a little bit of magic.
