Prep IV survival skills cope with the deluge at Haigh Hall

The weather did not dampen the spirits of Prep IV today as they explored the ropes in Haigh Hall and then tested their survival skills in the old zoo area of the woodlands. Upon arrival, harnesses and helmets were quickly donned and such was the desire to get on the ropes that the instructors Paul and Adam were almost trampled in the rush to the tower! First up were the low ropes – “they’re not low!” was one exclamation – some breezed round, some approaches were more measured, but lots of personal challenges were faced and overcome. The more daring went up to the high ropes, some revisited the low ropes to consolidate their achievement.

A break indoors for lunch, with combined challenges of which snack to eat first and how to avoid the late season wasps, it was then time to put bush craft skills to the test. With the onset of the inclement weather, skills to make weatherproof shelters and build fires for boiling water were urgently required. Our children rose to the challenge with enthusiasm, using flints to start fires for the pot boilers and scavenging tarpaulins and branches for their shelters. None wanted to stay in them overnight, but they were effective.

A soggy but exciting and challenging day – well done for your application today Prep IV!

I loved my visit to Haigh Hall and I really enjoyed the high ropes, especially the zip line and I enjoyed making the fire too. Mr Suter got drenched going for the minibus.
