Prep IV have been studying ‘The Tudors’ as part of their history lesson in class. On Thursday 18th January, we stepped back in time to the Elizabethan age at Ordsall Hall.
Elijah opened up the door into the past where a great feast was being held. We were met by Lady Beatrice Radcliffe and her loyal servant Mildred who looked after us all day. At the head of the table was Lord Sir John Radcliffe and Lady Anne Radcliffe (Ibrahim and Hallie) followed by Lord and Lady de Trafford (Asa and Honorah), Lord and Lady Barton (Elijah and Rose), Lord and Lady Strange (William and Tejas), the Jester (Jerry), the Merchants (Harrison and Victor) and the farmers (Amna, Carly and Noah). Everyone else including Miss Gregory and Mr. Tarry were the servants who had the task to place the correct food in the right place.
We split off into two groups. One group went to see the servant area of the house and the other group went to the rich side of the house. We then swapped round.
In the servants’ side of the house, we looked at how water was carried from the river, the animals they ate, how they ground, grated and mixed spices. We then looked at where the servants slept – it was freezing so we huddled up together just like how they use to.
In the rich part of the house, we went into the Lord’s bedroom which was called the Star Chamber because of the gold stars on the ceiling. There four of us got to dress up in the knights armour which was heavy. After that, we went upstairs to the Lady’s room where we learnt that they only had a bath every eight weeks, about their beds which do not seem comfy and made nice smelling Poses.
We finished off with a song and some musical instruments. A good day was had by all.
