Down on the farm!

On Tuesday morning, Kindergarten and Reception went on a trip to Smithills Open Farm in Bolton.  The children have been learning all about the animals that we find on the farm and we had a fantastic day out.

Luckily, the weather was very good to us and we were able to see all that Smithills Farm had to offer.  We had the opportunity to hold and feed some of the baby animals, such as: rabbits, chicks, lambs and kids.  We even got to see the donkey who had been born just hours before our arrival!  How lucky were we?

We were taken on a tractor ride up the hill where we fed slices of bread to the donkeys and Jack the Horse!

All this excitement had given us an appetite so we went into the lunch room and tucked into our delicious packed lunch that Mr. Green had prepared for us.

Once refuelled, it was time for us to go on a donkey ride!  It was so exciting!  After this, and a quick play on the adventure playground, it was time for us to watch the cows being milked.  The farmer showed us their brand new milking robot ‘Rusty’.  It used fascinating technology to milk each of the farms’ 60 cows.  It was great to watch!
