Prep VI ventured out of the classroom this morning for our topic on local history and geography, with Worsley as our focus. Utilising our maps skills to follow a pre-determined route, we traversed Worsley Green and crossed the canal to explore some of Worsley’s historical buildings. After all, many of us live here but do not necessarily know the origins of some of the buildings. Just what is Winkup’s Hump? How many planks does the Alphabet Bridge hold? Why was the Packet House a prime viewing platform to catch a glimpse of Her Majesty Queen Victoria? Which is the oldest surviving building in Worsley? What was the Old Nick? What is the Pulling Post?

It certainly was a bit chilly, but an invigorating game of chase on the green certainly warmed us all up before our walk back to school.

This was a fun day. We had a map that we used to find our way and we put historical places on the map like the Alphabet Bridge.

I really enjoyed walking around Worsley. My favourite bit was marking down what we saw on our our maps.
