As the festive season approached the Bridgewater Under 11 Tag Rugby Squad arrived at the beautiful surroundings of Scarisbrick Hall School which was bathed in a blanket of white frost and wintry sunshine. Thankfully the pitches were in perfect condition for running rugby and lots of tries. The first game against Cransley School was very much a learning process for the Bridgewater players, unfortunately forgetting Mr. Rooney’s plan of playing with direct running and off loading in the tackle with runners attacking through the resultant space. Despite some impressive running and tries from Albie and Alex, the team suffered a narrow defeat.

The next two games against two of the many Scarisbrick Hall teams playing reflected the excellent progress the team made during the day compared to game one. Isla started to make powerful runs through the opposition lines and Beatrice following instructions carefully by profiting from good supporting runs. Our fourth game against Hulme Hall was by far the best performance so far, with Christian finding space around the sides of the defence and Tanisha emerging as a demon tagger and also try scorer. After a defeat and draw the team secured their second victory.

A female team from Bowden were our next opponents with Annie grabbing the headlines with some dodging runs and excellent tags contributing to an excellent victory. Our fifth game was against a Welsh team who played some good flowing rugby. Unfortunately for them they came across Reuben the try machine who scored a hat trick and emerged as the Bridgewater star player. Reuben’s try fest continued on the next game where he scored another hat trick and Nathan stared himself as the best improved player of the day.

The final game belonged to Ben our captain who was immense all afternoon securing our final victory. Congratulations to the team for their play, teamwork, team spirit, sportsmanship and great behaviour. Mr.Rooney was very proud!
