Thirty children from Prep IV to VI had a chance to experience first class cricket in all its glory today, as Lancashire took on Worcestershire in the Division Two County Championship top of the table clash.  With Worcestershire only having one wicket remaining in their innings, we didn’t get to see as much of Jimmy Anderson’s bowling as we would have liked, although there was plenty of opportunity to admire his footwork in the Lancashire team’s football based warm up.

As well as the cricket, there were plenty of other activities to experience, including police and fire services, the RAF, remote controlled rally car driving, a cricket simulator, and lots of fielding activities.  Oh, and don’t forget the ice creams.

Lancashire’s Rob Jones made an early schoolboy error in the field – he came to the boundary and signed an autograph for a boy from another school.  Cue a rush for signatures which lasted the whole day, with all manner of objects being presented for signatures.  Special mention must go to Jackson – he was one of the first of our children to seek a signature, but it was only at the end of our time there that he finally achieved his goal (we won’t count Mr. Altdorf’s signature as a proper one!).

For the record, Lancashire won by six wickets, with a Dane Vilas 60 not out guiding them home – Jimmy Anderson took seven wickets in the match, even if we didn’t see any today.
