To celebrate World Book Day, EYFS and Prep pupils rolled out of bed and straight into school for a day in their pyjamas. We welcomed visiting artist Paul Pickford, who led an exciting creative storytelling activity called a Story Bounce. This interactive workshop encouraged every class to work together to create a brand-new story, combining imagination, writing and illustration. The story was titled “The Day It Fell From the Sky.”
A Mystery Begins
The story began with a mysterious event – a strange cube suddenly falling from the sky. It all started in a busy town where Steve, the local hotdog stand owner, was going about his normal day serving customers. Suddenly, something unusual happened: a mysterious cube fell out of the sky. Curious and a little confused, Steve became the first person to notice the strange object. From that moment, the adventure began.
The story was then passed from class to class, ‘bouncing’ ideas around the school – which is why the activity is called a Story Bounce. Each class in Prep and Reception played an important role in developing the story, from deciding what happened next to inventing new characters and helping to decide how the story would end.
As well as writing their sections of the story, pupils also created colourful illustrations to bring their scenes to life. These drawings helped show the characters, settings and key moments in the adventure. All of the pages – both the writing and the artwork – will be collected and turned into a real book. This means every class will have contributed to a shared story that the whole school helped create. The Story Bounce workshop was a fantastic way to celebrate World Book Day. It showed how stories can grow when people work together and use their imagination, helping create something unique that belonged to everyone in the school. Most importantly, it reminded us that anyone can be a storyteller – sometimes all it takes is one strange idea falling from the sky.

This was really fun because the art was really tricky but fun and it was exiting coming in our pajamas. It was fun reading to the little kids because they didt understand how to lift up the flaps and they just ripped them off.
i really enjoyed it because we got to wear our own pyjamas and read a book i read out three facts in the guiness world record book 2026 also we got to read out books that we made to the reception

I really enjoyed world book day! I found it really fun. It was really fun when we had to do the picture story thing about the block that fell from the sky. I also liked reading to the ADORABLE little reception kids! It was really funny when I asked the reception kids,” Does my crab look like a spider?” And all of them said yes! It was hard to stop them from getting distracted and lifting the wrong flaps but I managed!

I really loved reading my book to the reception people, I read to Ahmed in reception and he wanted to read my book over and over again and I teached him how to draw the pig I drawnt in the end of my little book that I wrote (I didn’t make the book out of paper, I thought about what to put in the book and I wrote the book and illustrated the book) the book was called “dear farm” but it was originally made by Rod Campbell who made dear zoo.I also liked the fact that we got the chance to dress up in our pyjamas wrote by Austin
I liked World Book Day because we wore our PJ’s, we drew, coloured and we read to EYFS, Rose and I had the same pyjamas. First we had the artist Paul Pickford come to visit our class, we started a story for the school and Leo picked out the location in New York and who saw it first, which was the hot dog guy. When Alice and I finished we coloured the front cover of the book. Next after lunch we went to Early years and read to the little ones, I read to my sister Connie, Halle, Faith, Michaela and Nola, they loved my story and kept trying to lift the flaps in my book too early! Prep 5 gathered around the carpet to talk to reception and ask what their favourite parts of our stories were. I loved the day, wearing our pj’s and reading to the little ones, also no maths.
