As part of their ongoing transition into Senior School, Prep VI took part in an engaging Science taster lesson this week. Having already enjoyed a successful PE taster session earlier in the term, the pupils are becoming increasingly confident as they experience more of Senior life.
During their Science lesson with Dr. Jevons, the children learned about the different parts of the heart and how each one plays a vital role in keeping blood circulating around the body. They were excited to put their new knowledge into practice by dissecting a heart, carefully identifying the chambers, vessels and valves they had just discussed.
The session ended with the pupils assembling their own 3D paper hearts, giving them a hands-on way to consolidate their learning and something tangible to take home.
The group approached the lesson with enthusiasm, curiosity and maturity, and they continue to make excellent progress as they prepare for the move into Senior school.

I enjoyed doing this but it was very slimy and wet! I tried to find all the different parts but some were wrong. But I’ll look forward to science in year 7

I loved this activity ,me and my partner Noah dissected a sheep heart ,we held it, and cut it.The only downside was that it stank of raw meat. After we cut it opened, we put pins in the places we were told.We also made a paper mache of the heart Wich was fun. I enjoyed this activity I would definitely do it again. William year6
This experience was so fun but very disgusting. me and my partner couldn’t even cut it because, every time we tried to cut it open it crunched and smelt like fish. I can’t believe that it was real and looked nothing the diagram at all. Lucie Hogan Prep 6
This experience was the best! It was very fun to dissect the sheep heart, but also quite disgusting!
I was working with Amna and Amelie, Amna stuck her finger in the aorta which was very brave! Thank you for arranging this for me Mr.Suter and Miss McEvoy.
Many thanks from Carly

I enjoyed this day so much. It was very challenging as it was hard to identify the different parts as they all looked the same. it was one of the best days as I want to be a doctor when I am older and this experience has made me want to do it all the more. I can’t wait for senior school and year 7.
The heart dissection day was really fun because I have never seen a real heart before. I thought this experience was challenging as cutting through the muscle was difficult didn’t have the best smell. I will remember it forever. I learnt what the heart was made from and that the left side of the heart is thicker as it pumps blood around the rest of your body and that the right side is thinner as it only pumps blood to your lungs. thank you for this experience.
The science lesson was a little bit gross and smelly but fun! I never would have thought we would have actually been able to do a dissection on an actual heart! I liked seeing the senior building and science labs. I am so excited to move into seniors soon. Thanks, Noah C
I absolutely loved this science taster in seniors. I especially enjoyed cutting up the the heart and playing a game where you had to stick pins in different places in the heart. My partner was Carter who seemed to enjoy it more than me! Overall this visit to seniors was a great and wonderful experience.

This was amazing!! We got to open and cut a real sheep heart. Even though it stunk of fish it was fun to work with my partner, especially getting to cut it open while my partner and I looked disgusted. It was so fun to experience this opportunity. Poppy Boyes Prep 6
