Bridgewater travelled to the Armitage Centre in Manchester to take on Ladybarn and Greenbank Prep in a basketball triangular challenge on Thursday night. First up was a hugely entertaining match against Greenbank. Both sides attacked with vigour and energy but found defences in great form. When shots were thrown, neither team had much luck and despite a plethora of chances for both teams, the game ended in an unusual 0-0 draw.
Whilst Greenbank and Ladybarn played each other, Bridgewater evaluated how to tackle their next opponents. However, as the game developed the team continued to struggle to find their range when shooting. Jess and Freya went close on several occasions, whilst Matteo, Oliver B, Chun Ka and Jaydon all tried their luck from varying angles and distances. At the other end, despite some resolute rebounding and defending from Paul, Craig and Lukee, Ladybarn managed to score four times to give them an 8-0 win.
In the final game of the night, Bridgewater took on Greenbank in an impromptu re-match. This time both teams found a bit more luck and skill in front of the basket and this made for a much more exciting finale. Greenbank stormed into a 6-0 lead, before Bridgewater launched their comeback. Matteo scored a terrific three pointer and Jess brought the score back to 6-5. With time running out, the team pressed for a winner and with the last play of the game, Freya saw her shot bounce off the ring to safety to secure the win by the narrowest of margins for Greenbank. All in all, a fun and entertaining night was had by players from all three teams and we can look forward to more challenges in the not too distant future.
