The U9s finally returned to action after the half term break and immediately set about making up for lost time. Early on it was clear that Bridgewater were the far superior team and conditions were imposed on the game to make scoring goals more difficult. With goals from outside the area only counting for Bridgewater, this was an ideal opportunity to practice shooting from further out.
Luca B was the first to go close with a fine drive that rattled the post and ran to safety. However, it was not too long before the ball was flying past the first of several goalkeepers that Wilmslow were to try during the game. A typical mazy run from Alfie resulted in the first goal of the day. Anton doubled the lead with a terrific first-time strike from the left hand side of the area, before Alfie added a second moments later. Tommy Jack struck with a fine shot on the turn as half time approached to give Bridgewater a comfortable 5-0 lead.
At the start of the second half, season debuts were given to newcomer Sebri, whilst Sebastian and Dexter got some valuable game time too. Luca were tirelessly in midfield, Toby was solid in defence and Alex and Anton found space on the wings with ease. Wilmslow made the game more interesting by opening their account early with a fierce strike that even the excellent Luca C in the Bridgewater goal could do nothing about. As the game wore on, the movement and passing of the home team ensured chances were created almost at will. Tommy Jack completed his hattrick, Alfie finished with four goals, with Josh adding a further two to the overall tally.
It is a credit to the team that they are developing nicely at the moment and they are going into each game with confidence. There will be tougher games ahead, starting next week with a challenge match at Cransley on Monday. The next day the team will then return to Greenbank Prep to see if they can move into the quarter- finals of the ISA North Cup.
