img_1446The final part of Manchester City’s football festival took place today, with the U11s in action. Last year, the team missed the qualifying stages on goal difference, so there was a determination to go one better this time around.
Our first game was against St. Ambrose, and we quickly settled into our rhythm and went ahead with a well taken goal from Louis. Sadly, we then switched off and allowed St. Ambrose back into the game, conceding two quick sloppy goals. Despite a frantic search for an equiliser, it wasn’t to be.
Next, we faced a well organised Grange team but with Fin, Solomon and then Eoghan solid at the back we cut off any threat from them. Charlie scored our first, and then Samuel popped up for a fine poacher’s goal to make the final score 2-0.
If we were to have any chance of progressing to the knock out stages, we needed to win our final game by plenty of goals and then hope Grange beat St. Ambrose. Charlie took this as a personal mission, and scored three, as well as hitting the post and peppering the keeper. It finished 3-0, but it wouldn’t have made any difference as St. Ambrose won their final game and progressed.  A great morning and opportunity to experience City’s fantastic facilities, even if the final result didn’t go our way.
