Prep V reach the Champions League

Prep V boys travelled to the Etihad with the goal of reaching the tournament final which would provide an opportunity to compete with the best school teams in the North West at the Etihad on June 30th.

Bridgewater played four matches in their group, with the top two teams going in to a quarter final. The first match against Pownall Green would turn out to be their toughest with Pownall having a very impressive front line. Bridgewater played some outstanding football in the game but tried to pass the ball in to the net. Chances were missed before Pownall got one chance and scored: 0-1

The second game versus Rushbrook resulted in a game plan of at least five shots on target. This plan worked with Keane scoring with the team’s fifth shot, securing victory: 1-0

The penultimate group game was another tough encounter against a large physical team. Jacob, Oscar and Mason were impervious at the back and Daniel stole the show with an amazing tackle against a boy who was nearly as big as the onlooking Mr Rooney! 1-0

Our fourth game was an easier encounter with Daniel starring with two goals: 9-0

The quarter final started with Daniel surging down the right looking for the break through. Lumhead were well drilled so Bridgewater had to stay patient. Eventually a cross from Oliver found Keane, resulting in the first of 3 goals: 3-0

The semi-final was also tough versus St John’s. Jacob and Oscar changed the tactics with longer accurate passes which wore the opposition down eventually providing a 1-0 victory.  Sam and Henry were the Bridgewater stand out players.

There was little surprise that our first game would be repeated as the final. Bridgewater impressed the onlooking City coaches with their passion, passing and game management. Shots rained on the Pownall keeper, who somehow secured a draw in the final. Both teams were happy that they had secured a place in June where the rivalry will recommence.
