Prep V has been investigating rivers in Geography this half term, and last week we were studying erosion, transportation and deposition. This gave us an excellent excuse to play with sand and water (just like EYFS!)

Our geographical play enabled us to explore how water can wear away, transport and deposit materials, and we mimicked the river’s flow by dropping water from pipettes on to tilted pallets packed tightly with sand.

Gradually, the water wore away the sand, transporting it down river to create new land at what would be the river estuary near the sea.

We look forward to seeing real river features   next week during field work in Worsley Woods, when we explore Kempnough Brook. We have our wellingtons ready!
