Freddie makes Greenbank wait for a win

The U11s were back in action today looking to put the Valencia coaching into practice in a match. From the first whistle, Bridgewater put together a lovely passing move that had the referee applauding and the opposition quaking. The team pressed forward and created a string of half chances without really testing the host keeper.

The game changed early in the first half when Freddie came off the bench to take control of the game. A long range shot was parried by the keeper and Freddie reacted first to fire the ball into the empty net. Not long after, Freddie produced several outstanding corners that the home team managed to scramble away. However, it was from another corner that Harrison took advantage to double the lead, whilst Freddie added another shortly after. Greenbank pulled a goal back with a run from deep that nobody managed to stop.

In the second half, Bridgewater players rarely let the home team out of their own half. Oliver B was busy in midfield, supported by Paul and Harrison. Lukee and captain Owen looked assured at the back and Oliver A had little to do in the Bridgewater goal for much of the half. Freddie again stole the show with some proving passes, pressing quickly from goal kicks and his set piece delivery would impress Gareth Southgate!

The chances came thick and fast and on another day, Freddie would have scored a triple hattrick. As it was he settled for a hattrick, with Harrison scoring four, Alfie tucked away from close range and Paul flicked in to compete the rout. The goal of the game would not look out of place at the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia. Oliver A won the ball in midfield and passed back to Oliver B in defence who touched it on to Owen. A neat ball out wide fed Harrison, who skipped past two defenders and headed for the by line. An excellent cut back found Freddie on the penalty spot and he made no mistake to score a fabulous team goal.

The final score of 9-2 was a more than fair reflection of the game and Bridgewater’s dominance. We have now played Greenbank at all age groups in two seasons and all teams have won their matches in style. With the half term break now upon us, thoughts turn to the Cup competition and we can only hope for a kind draw. Today, however, was a quality performance and the team can take confidence in the result. Practice nights are on Monday and Thursday after school, whilst there are opportunities to develop fitness levels further by attending the Salford Cross Country races in November and December.
