Bridgewater Prep U8 Football Team played at a sun drenched Etihad on Friday September 28th. The boys lined up in a fluid 2-2-2 formation ready for the onslaught of schools such as Manchester Grammar, Bolton School, Kings Chester and Bury Grammar.

The first game vs Wilmslow was a goal fest for the boys in blue who policed the entire pitch and in particular the Wilmslow goal mouth. Mr Rooney had to withdraw Tommy-Jack to keep the score under 10 and save the opposition blushes!

Mr Rooney’s warning that the following two games v MGS & Terra Nova would be a very different proposition came true with two defeats against two excellent teams. Alexander was superb in goal using every part of his anatomy (apart from his hands) to keep the score respectful.

Bridgewater bounced back with two emphatic victories against Bury Grammar and King’s Chester which included a goal of the tournament from Tommy-Jack that caught everyone’s attention when he turned in the inside left channel, beat three opponents before rifling a shot in to the roof of the net. The goal had Mr Rooney reminiscing about a similar goal scored by Ryan Giggs at Man City many blue moons ago.

Bridgewater came a credible 5th out of 12 teams after a scoreless and hard fought game vs The Ryleys.

Lunch became the immediate focus of the hungry BWS players although they are also hungry for success in the future after this encouraging display.
