Windy football for U9s and U11s

Bridgewater U9s breeze past Greenbank as U11s battle in the wind and cold at Hale Prep.

The U9s maintained their incredible winning sequence of results with another impressive win over Greenbank Prep in Stockport. The victory was all the more significant as a full squad of 14 players were given the opportunity to play a role in the game.

The A team took to the pitch early on and soon moved into a two goal lead thanks to strikes from David and Jaydon. Matteo and Alfie has chances to increase the lead but the team looked confident and comfortable early on. A full set of seven changes brought the opposition back into the game, and but for two great saves from keeper Thomas, the score line could of been so different. Fortunately, goals from Matteo and Harper put Bridgewater into a 4-2 lead at half time.

The pattern in the second half was very similar to that of the first. Another fast start saw Luca and Toby A pressing the opposition defence and forcing errors that led to goals for both players. Matteo completed a deserved hat trick, whilst David also completed his second hat trick in as many games. Craig went close on several occasions to add to the score, whilst Toby A and Luca B also had chances in front of the Greenbank goal.

A couple of late goals from the dangerous Greenbank striker gave some consolation to the team from Cheadle Hulme. However, Bridgewater were to have the last word in the game with a brilliant team goal. Alfie played a one two with keeper George before spraying the ball out wide to Jaydon. Jaydon skipped round a defender before switching the play to Matteo, who powered past the full back, before picking out David for a one touch finish into the bottom corner. It was a sensational goal and a fine way to complete the rout of a very competent opponent.

Earlier in the week, the U11s faced an outstanding team from Hale Grammar School.
Despite a resilient performance in defence from captain Archie, the boys were unable to get enough possessions to get a foothold in the game. Bridgewater were 4-2 down at half time with goals from Daniel and Ethan C bringing the team back into the game after going 4-0 down very early in the match. Unfortunately, Hale proved too strong as the game wore on and scored another five goals without reply to give them a comfortable victory overall.

The day was not a total disaster, as the B team took some revenge over Hale B with a fantastic 4-1 victory.  Leading 1-0, thanks to a Hale own goal, there was no sign of what was to come in the second half. Harvey scored a great solo goal following good work from Oliver A and Matteo.  Matteo added a third before the moment of the game and possibly the goal of the season arrived from Oliver A. Picking the ball up on half way, Oliver looked up and fired an unbelievable looping shot over the hapless Hale keeper and into the roof of the net! It was an amazing individual goal in a fine team performance and made the journey back to Bridgewater far more enjoyable for at least one team! The U11s are back in action this week with another tough fixture in the ISA Cup vs. King’s School, Macclesfield on Thursday at 2pm.
