Twelve lucky Bridgewater reception and Prep 1 youngsters tasted the life of a professional footballer for a few hours on Friday morning as they completed in a football tournament at Manchester City F.C. state of the art football academy.
New City signing Kyle Walker looked on as 7 schools competed in a round robin tournament that proved to be as exciting as any premier league encounter.
Bridgewater eased to a 2-0 opening win over Wilmslow Prep thanks to goals from Benjamin and Oliver C A 3-2 win followed over Moor Allerton thanks to a terrific hat -trick from Benjamin.
The toughest game of the morning followed against a strong side, The Ryles. Bridgewater trailed 1-0 for much of the game but a late equaliser from Benjamin again proved to be enough to salvage the draw. The team knew if they could win there remaining games they would finish on top of the league and that’s exactly what they did.
Another Benjamin goal was enough to see off Terra Nova. Benjamin scored again against Rydal Penhros but it was a goal by Zak that sealed a vital 2-1 win.
In the final game , two late goals from player of the tournament Benjamin saw the team come from behind to beat St Ambrose 2-1 and ensured Bridgewater took the top prize in the competition.
Although it was the strikers who took most of the applause on the day, the fantastic goalkeeping from both Oscar T and Toby T were crucial at key moments in all of the games. Great enthusiasm and energy from Jazz, Mason, Jaydon, Elsie-Mae, Tatiana, Amelia and Nnamdi in addition to those mentioned was a delight to see for the travelling supporters.
Next up to experience the magic of the MCFC tournament is Prep 3 who will go the the Academy on Friday 6th October.
