We are beginning a new initiative in Prep. this week, which will enable children to develop their language and communication skills. Called ‘The Big Talk’, we are encouraging all children, staff and family members to discuss a new topic each week. Everyone is vital: from kitchen staff to teachers, parents, neighbours, Aunties and Uncles, Granny and Grandad, maintenance men to welfare ladies! We need to get the children excited to talk. The understanding is: if children can talk better, they can write better! Ask your child about their current Talk Topic. Ask them questions, tell them what you think about it. Everyone can make a difference. Our first topic, beginning today, is ‘My favourite holiday’ and from then on the Talk Topic will be accessible on the first noticeboard as you walk into the Prep. building. You shouldn’t need to know what it is – just ask your child! Spread the word and let’s remind children how to converse…and not with a computer!
